Notes:
Promotional-only compilation of non-LP tracks from A&M's catalogue, issued in plain brown cardboard/chipboard gatefold sleeve with a black and white sticker with "ransom-note"-style lettering: "THE A&M BooTLeg ALbum". All labels for this version are marked "NOT FOR SALE" (with no mention of promotional purpose). Other versions exist without "NOT FOR SALE" markings on sides 2 & 3 [here, or with "promotional copy" added to the Side 4 label [here. (Further variations may exist: A&M may have been playing around with the 'bootleg' theme, or perhaps complaints from the bands forced them to add the promo notices.) Sides 1 & 4 (A & D) are on one disk, and Sides 2 & 3 (B & C) are on the other. All runouts have trailing plate marks: etched numbers in circles (① or ②) which may be found in multiple combinations. (24 combinations are possible, so please do not list them as Variants.) D1 b/w D2 & D3 b/w D4 were 1966 A&M singles by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. The writing credit for track D1 is given as "A. Christensen", as it was incorrectly shown on the first pressings of the 1966 Beefheart single (and also on the first versions of the Remains' 45). Later 1966 pressings (of both) credited Willie Dixon and Bo Diddley, although versions of the song predated them as well. All tracks are processed from mono except "L.A. Breakdown" and "The Train Song", which are true stereo. An A&M promotional notice to radio (not included with most LPs) states: "To further the music available to you and your listeners I have put together an album of previously released singles heretofore never available in LP form. The album is not commercial and is just for your station's record library..."
